THE CURATOR’S EGG

The new exhibition at A Galeria Secreta is, in the main, excellent.   If people knew where it was, they would flock. As it is, views are very private. If you want a private view bring your own wine and glasses … oh and some cheese, I like cheese. Contact me for details.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

. The reason for this photograph is not to show you my studio in Portugal but to give you some practical advice. . . There are two vital pieces of equipment showing that every aspiring artist needs. I cannot over-emphasis how important they are. (Pause whilst the avid viewer carefully studies the photograph using well […]

THE SHORT TEMPERED MAN OF FAIRLIGHT

Although Grumpy has been created in Portugal he will have a significant role to play later in the year at the Cliff Top Residence during Coastal Currents Open Studios 2017. . He appears to be on his soap-box once again, well, perched at the base of a yucca plant actually. I couldn’t quite work out […]

THE JUICES CONTINUE FLOWING.

By this time next week, with good luck and a following wind, we should be ensconced in a our pad in Portugal. I’m looking forward to seeing our neighbours Seena and Amorim. Immediately next door to us is their barn and October is when Amorim fires up his still and makes a rather nice hooch. […]

LACK OF COMMUNICATION

One of the things I love about Portugal is the inability to converse with the natives. As we all know the majority of the spoken word is wasted on expressing opinions of little worth, silly banter and boring anecdotes. (Avid readers fall into a different category …. obviously). I’m very pleased to keep my communication […]

EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

I remember the pleasure and excitement all those years ago when we moved into our first flat. Begging, borrowing and almost stealing the furniture needed to furnish it. 2nd hand this, 5th hand that. 16 properties later, both here and abroad, the excitement hasn’t diminished. The difference now is there’s a bit more cash floating […]
