THE RESOUNDING SILENCE

We all need those moments of serenity and oneness. I need the stars for this.

There was a lot of light pollution at the Gated Community, and a whacking great building that got in the way as well.

Very early yesterday morning I wandered into the garden at the Cliff Top Residence. The pellucid sky allowed me to see the stars again. Orion had his belt well cinched and the plough was pointing towards the North Star. It was as crystal clear as any night sky I’ve seen – as clear as the skies you get when you are far out at sea. A million million *twinklies* with absolutely nothing in between – luverly!

(Not that silent, I think I heard a car go by about a couple of hours ago. Tsk. Lo,TG Ed)

fabulous…. one of the great simple pleasures of life is being able to gaze at the stars. I see quite a lot due to having farm fields to the rear of the house and not much light pollution ….

Oh don’t wander too far in your garden in the early hours unless you fancy a ickle swim too ;-)

    daddyp replied:

I hadn’t realised how much I’d missed them …….. there are loads aren’t there?

    70steen replied:

more than you can count with your socks on …..

have you lost them again? that is quite a feat to lose them 2 days on the trot(ter)

I’m going to put my foot down over this subject now ……… where the heck is it?

beautiful… you’re probably able to see the crab nebulae in orion’s belt with the naked eye. middle star, i think. no, that does not mean orion has crabs…

    daddyp replied:

I think the Crab Nebula is in the Taurean constellation – but I could be wrong.

    # ζ Ori (Alnitak), ε Ori (Alnilam) and δ Ori (Mintaka) make up the asterism known as Orion’s Belt: three bright stars in a row; from these alone one can recognize Orion.

It doesn’t mean that Orion hasn’t got crabs though …..

    daisyfae replied:

you’re right! off the top of my head, the Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated south of Orion’s Belt (ok, so that’s off the top of wikipedia… it’s late, i’m half gone on bailey’s and cocoa, and it’s the best i could do!)

so, orion’s got nebula. which isn’t as much fun as saying he has crabs…

    daddyp replied:

It’s harder to cure though …….. mmmmmmm, Baileys and cocoa – lovely ……..

Love it! That’s something I never tire of looking at.
We have world’s first outdoor planetarium here in Chico constructed just for star gazing…it’s wonderful especially on hot summer nights…here’s the link. I’ll take ya there if you ever come to visit! And TG of course. And Grumpy and Little Ted. And Gertrude. And anyone else who wants to come! :)

    daddyp replied:

Gosh your house IS going to be full ……. do you serve breakfast in bed?

    Olga, de Travling Bar replied:

Yes! I mean no. Just to Gertrude.

    daddyp replied:

You won’t serve Gertrude his brekky!!!!! – poor fella

    Olga, the Traveling Bra replied:

I MEAN I would ONLY serve Gertrude his brekky IN bed. Like I did before. ;)

    daddyp replied:

    Ohhhhh ………..

In the city the stars are shy.
    They whisper celestial secrets
    Only amongst themselves
    And to a passing moon

They hide behind the haze of overcrowding.
They make a compact with all who live there.
The small stars will not look down.
Big people will not look up.

At night here in the desert
    I hear the stars shouting
In the west Venus yells, “I am here!”
From the east, the Martian counterpoint.

The growing half moon joins in
With the span of the Milky Way
    Where small men look to
The blatant glory of the stars.
