THE ETERNAL CIRCLE

There are definite signs that the cycle is turning and new signs of life are popping up all over the garden.

This hydrangea sums up the cycle extremely well. Last years growth has turned brown and brittle and is just about to fall off, at the same time as the new shoots are preparing to have their moment of glory.

If this represents my life, I’m standing on the left and all the spotty herberts and beautiful young goddesses are standing to the right. If I’m lucky, I might hang on to see them reach maturity. If not, they’ll do their thing anyway.
.

(’Brown and brittle’ – a slight exaggeration there, and certainly not brown Peabrain, more sort of pasty.  I think you’ll manage to stagger on for a bit – besides, the shower room needs finishing. Lo,TG Ed)

Quite right, LoTG ed, (DP is probably still looking for those ‘hidden’ bricks, (do you really want them in a shower room ?) Ooops, now i’ve dobbed him in.

    daddyp replied:

That’s given me an idea – I could turn the shower room into a sauna!! – thanks Wizardy One

    gitwizard replied:

Btw, if you are decorating, have a look at http://www.google.com/reader/view/#stream/feed/%2Fhttp%3A%2Fwww.tetherdcow.

    daddyp replied:

Apparently the link isn’t working ……. a bit like me really ……

    gitwizard replied:

just google ‘tetherd cow’ , that’ll get you to the finest colour palette this/that side of Dulux.

    daddyp replied:

    Okey dokey …………. whoooooosh

    gitwizard replied:

actually, GOOGLE will probably ask you if you meant ‘Tethered cow ahead’, and, of course, you DID meant.

I love hydrangeas – are yours pink or blue?

    daddyp replied:

White – but actually not long for this world as we don’t like them very much. The ‘Lacewing’ variety are nice – these are rather clunky ……

    Lo,TG replied:

Hello Nursie. Actually they’re pink, or will be, and I think dear Peabrain means ‘Lacecap’ – unless he’s been carrying out some sort of weird cross pollination programme with small flying things. Which is entirely possible.

    daddyp replied:

    I’ve had a hard life ……..

    fracas replied:

You know… I was going to be a fracarse and post something wise (in that sour cream kind of way…) but these five little words actually brought a tear to my eye.

(Or maybe it was the ‘wind’?)

    Either way… I need a tissue now.

    daddyp replied:

Hello Watermelon Head – are you feeling a bit better?

    fracas replied:

Not much. I’ve been told most who had this were ‘orribly sick for 2 weeks. I’ll spare everyone the details though…

    daddyp replied:

Thank you for that at least – tee hee. You’ll fight it off quicker than that I’m sure ……

    gitwizard replied:

    Hello Lo,TG,
This post is so educational. According to http://www.bumblebee.org , Lacewing have ultrasound sensors in their wings. Also, some of their larvae “have a rather grisly way of camouflaging themselves, they cover their bodies with the dried out husks of the aphids and other insects that they have sucked dry”. Think I noticed similar activity at the last Stonehenge festival I attended.

    daddyp replied:

    Winged ‘Crusties’!!!!! …….. oh dear

    gitwizard replied:

Hi Nurse, just a quick GQT comment here. How well do hydrangeas grow in the Antipodies ?

Is there any other kind of circle?

    daddyp replied:

    Ask Möbius ……. there’s always a new twist ……

    gitwizard replied:

A very popular search engine tells me there are only 540,000 results for MOBIUS, tried searching, but just ended up even more twisted.

    daddyp replied:

Learning is a never ending mission …… I gave up years ago ……

    fracas replied:

Have you tried it with an ‘e’ and added the word ’strip’? It would seem this way, even math is suitable for the fraccy blog.

(I had a (math genius) friend stay with us once. She made one to impress the fraccy kids. Such a twisted gal she was…)

    daddyp replied:

A Möbius stripe!!!!!! – tee hee

What I love about them is if you cut them up the middle you just get one big circle ….. very clever ……..

    daddyp replied:

BTW – The Möbius strip or Möbius band (pronounced /ˈmiːbiəs/ or /ˈmoʊbiəs/ in English, IPA: [ˈmøːbiʊs] in German) (alternatively written Mobius or Moebius in English) is a surface with only one side and only one boundary component.

    archiearchive replied:

And if all this edumacational stuff doesn’t stop, I’ll stuff you into a Klein Bottle!

    A mathematician named Klein
Thought the Möbius band was divine.
    Said he: “If you glue
    The edges of two,
You’ll get a weird bottle like mine.”

    gitwizard replied:

How do you pronounce that in Polish, so I can discuss this topic with my friend Marzena ? And Archie, now you’ve opened a new educational thread, i’ve heard of a Klein Bottle, but can you update me on that, (what would I put in a Klein Bottle )? I’ll try that well known search engine again.

    fracas replied:

I blame myself. I’ve been shirking in the paper-retrieving business lately… it seems to be causing this dreadful trend towards thinking…

    daddyp replied:

Next week – particle physics, cuticle restoration and ‘Why is water wet?” ……. oh, and why Calvin Klein took to the bottle ……..

    gitwizard replied:

Shirking ? Retrieving ? Thinking ? Do peabrains know anythhing about these ? Well, shirking obviously.

That’s actually quite a moving and thoughtful post.

    Is he alright, TG?

    daddyp replied:

Sorry – didn’t mean to frighten you ….. it won’t happen again …….

    Busy Bear replied:

I agree – has me feeling all warm & fuzzy…..

    xoxo

    gitwizard replied:

Lucky ‘all warm & fuzzy’, not sure i’ve met her.

    daddyp replied:

    That’s a bear for you ……. silly things ……

My hydrangea just looks as dead as it did – maybe I killed it off for good…. The daffy’s are shooting tho so spring is springing here too!

    gitwizard replied:

I like a hydrangea, lot’s of blue ones near where I live, and daffs always cheer me up when they appear.

    Kate replied:

mine was blue once – then last year there were no flowers – this year there maybe no plant. I hope not ‘cos I really like them too – but daffy’s now they are my real favourite!!

    daddyp replied:

I like narcissus as well – I wonder why!!!! – tee hee

    gitwizard replied:

    I’m keen on a self-centered croci.
