A STICKY SITUATION

One of the many delights of Surfugal is that the Water Board turn off the water for repair works with no warning at all.
It’s nearly lunchtime now and there’s been no water since we woke up. There are long forgotten parts of my body that are sticking together causing some discomfort and shock that they [...]

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN

We’re off to Surfugal.
Obviously my job is to annoy Penfold, Tango and Papersurfer Junior – a responsibility I take extremely seriously.
Lo, she is a terrible Goddess will graciously provide the opportunity for them to worship her again.
Please enjoy my holiday as much as I shall.
*checks bags* … itching powder – whoopee cushion – Speedos – [...]

REASONS TO WORSHIP – PART 3

A rare photo of Lo, she is a terrible Goddess checking something or other on her iPod Touch in the apartment in Surfugal.
She pops down to a café in the square at Ferrugudo and loads up ‘stuff’ on her fangled contraption. She returns to our apartment and then spends a lot of time ‘tutting’.
I have [...]

FLEXIBILITY

The selection of wines in Portugal has always been a bit of a disappointment. The reds, unless you go into the very expensive section, are to my taste rather robust – or in other words ‘rough’. The white wines also have a tendency to strip the stomach lining; there was a Vino Verde bottled for [...]

I NEED HELP WITH MY ACCENT

Can someone tell me how to say what this?

I’m also having trouble with this ….

This one is easy though …..

it’s a ‘Schnitzel’. (Schnitzel? Hmmm. That one looks as though it’ll need 7/8 mins at 250˚. Lo,TG Ed)
.

I’VE GOT A TURBO SNAKE!!!

This a very clever gizmo.
It wiggles it’s way down your plug holes and gathers up all the hair and detritus that restricts your flow. Anything that helps with restricted flow has got to be good!
You’ll notice however that it’s still in it’s packet. There is a very good reason for this.
I put in the plumbing [...]

I’VE GOT A COLD ….

….. so to cheer myself up I thought I’d have a look at some piccies from our last stay in Surfugal.

These olive pots are HUGE …. over 6 feet tall. They were on display outside a shop selling ceramics.

This life sized goddess was across the yard from her gentleman friend.

He wanted to show me his [...]

NAUTICAL ……. BUT NICE

I decided to amuse myself the other day by substituting the word ‘bowel’ for ‘boat’ as Lo, she is a terrible Goddess was describing the scene from the balcony down here in the South of Surfugal.
“Oh look at that little boat – it’s very pretty.”
I suppressed a smile.
“There are a lot of boats out there [...]

HIGHS AND LOWS

At low tide you can walk to the beach café, rather grandly called the Yacht Club which is tucked in under the cliffs, in about six minutes …….. there’s a short-cut along the beach under the watchful eye of the castle.
At high tide it takes EIGHT minutes from the apartment to get to the same [...]

REFLECTING ON ARCHITECTURE

“Let us conceive, consider and create together the new building of the future that will bring all into one single integrated creation; architecture, painting and sculpture rising to heaven out of the hands of a million craftsmen, the crystal symbol of the new faith of the future.”

I’m pretty sure that Walter Gropius didn’t have this [...]
