No, no …… no, I’m not offering to buy a round of drinks – as anyone who actually knows me knows, there is something in my DNA that prevents me from behaving so foolishly.
The question relates to the song that annoys you the most. Lo, she is a terrible Goddess and I, are for once, in agreement, and in our case the song is, “My Way”, in all it’s many versions – with the possible exception of Sid Vicious.
Complacency, smugness, arrogance and selfishness all seem to be displayed – plus the tune isn’t that good either.
I had a Google and discovered –
“My Way” is an English version of a French song. The English lyrics were written by Paul Anka and popularized by Frank Sinatra on his 1969 album My Way. The melody is that of the French song “Comme d’habitude” composed in 1967 by Claude François and Jacques Revaux. Anka’s English lyrics are unrelated to the original French by Claude François and Gilles Thibaut.
Perhaps the original version is better …….. I suppose I’d better have another Google ……..
Anyhoo – I would like to know if there is a particular song that gets your goat …….

This is a tricky choice & regret(fully) I’ve had a few to make… there are so many (but there again too few to mention)… I did pick out some tunes and I did what I had to do prepared to see it through without exemption.
Maybe I should plan each charted course when choosing the right tune being careful along the byway… however, what is true much more than this I will do it my way …..
So ……. you are determined to get my week off to a bad start then …… thank you VERY much Jerry!
oops soz … & I forgot my very unfav song.. actually it can’t actually be called a song as it is just noise .. Base Hunter …. due to may mad neighbours having on loop play last summer in the garden … arggggghhhhh!!!!
You haven’t been watching Celebrity Big Brother have you? [absolutely brilliant BTW - sorrrrry] …… you might have recognised someone on it …….. *whistles innocently*
no I have not watched it but Teen does … and yes I believe he is in it and got some sort of comeuppance re that song!!!
Indeed, Jonas Erik Altberg , had to listen to ‘that’ song all night …… I think he’s decided he’s rubbish …… tee hee
hee hee serves him right
Revenge is best served loud …….
Candle in the Wind by Elton John. I used to work for a music publisher and when Diana died we got A LOT of requests for that song. One particular day, I developed a migraine and after about 20 calls in a row asking for C in the W I found myself vomiting into the wastepaper basket beneath my desk and then I fainted.
So every time I hear that song I start to feel nauseous…
After a school trip to Rome when I was teenager I developed a very similar reaction to Cinzano Bianco following a particular educational experience ….. luckily I’ve got over that now and can enjoy Martinis to the full …….
‘new york, new york’ – primarily due to the karaoke phenomena… anyone who attempts to sing it? can’t. never mind that he’s never, ever been to NYC… painful to watch public humiliation…
Actually, that’s another song that I dislike intensely as well although I might have tolerated it for a little while …… [now trying to think of a song that I've liked for ages ...... hmmmmm ...... *clank* <-- brain trying to work]
“Sing” by the Carpenters, especially in the “please tear off my ears now” version that features kids singing the chorus. Actually I had to look up who perpetrated this piece of dreck because I plug my ears whenever I hear it on some gym or mall PA. Most hated: the line that goes “Don’t worry if it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear.” Clearly too many people have been taking that sentiment seriously.
How very true ……. it’s amazing how some songs can really get under your skin ….. and not in a good way ….
White Christmas – - –
To stop that from earworming, I shall listen to one of my favouritest songs – Non, je ne regrette rien. If that doesn’t work then a few choruses of “Every Sperm is Sacred” should do the trick.
What about “Always look on the bright siiiiide of life” tra-la ……..?
Delilah!!! I’m not surprised he killed her – the song is so depressing!!
My, my, my Delilah huh? …….. *starts humming – but in an upbeat way*
upbeat? I don’t believe it….. perhaps you could provide a video?????????
You really don’t want to ever hear me humming, singing or even miming ……. believe me …….
oh – but I do!!!! Upbeat Delilah! Go on – you know you want to!!!
I can only assume that you’re hard of hearing … I SAID, I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT YOU’RE HARD OF HEARING – tee hee
much as i detest the song – I DON’T MIND AT ALL! providing it is, as you say…. upbeat!!!
Anything by any of those Simon Cowell produced ‘talent’show artistes. Not particularly because I loathe the songs, but because hearing them reminds me of suffering even just the few minutes of TV that I have to endure when visiting my Sister/Parents house. It’s as if hearing the song somehow produces TV pictures in my mind subliminally, pass me the sick bags!
I would recommend dark glasses, earplugs and eating very loud crisps when visiting ………
Not necessarily a song, but the sound. Some of the young uns’ music these days is just wretched… but in a way different than how our parents thought our music was wretched.
The stuff that gets me is those groups that call the screaming/shouting of their lyrics what I can only describe as what it would sound like if a person went to hell. When the daughter is available I will ask her for a name to post so you can preview it somewhere and see what I mean. Honestly. I tolerate a lot and have actually gotten used to or even enjoy quite a variety of styles… but that one just upsets me. It literally sounds like screams from hell or some torture pit somewhere. I can’t imagine that any of these groups manage to not injure their vocal chords. And it’s not even music; anyone can scream/shout.
It’s amazing what you can learn to appreciate. I was working in youth clubs during the ‘punk’ era. Confusion was replaced with dislike and then some ’stuff’ emerged that I liked. Kids need ’stuff’ to rebel with ….. every now and again quality emerges in all genres …. I find it quite fascinating …..
