CARMEN JONES

Lo she is a terrible Goddess introduced me to the film Carmen Jones almost as soon as I met her. She gave me permission to fall in love with Dorothy Dandridge which I duly did.

I was reminded of this the other day when accidentally listening to Classic FM (I was listening – he was in the next room. Lo,TG Ed) and a violin virtuoso was playing some pieces from the original Carmen by Bizet.

When I first saw Carmen Jones I  wasn’t particularly concious that all the characters were played by African Americans, and it wasn’t until much later that I realised how significant that was at the time the film was made. Fabulous film, fabulous music and fabulous lyrics [although quite a few of the leads were actually sung by other people – not the actors on the screen].

Note to self – find a CD to replace the vinyl of the soundtrack that I lost …… how, I have no idea ………. this could be a can of worms……..
.

(What a role model…….. Lo,TG Ed)
