AT RISK

I realise that my preoccupation with bricks at the moment is likely to frighten people away, and quite frankly I’m considering joining you, but I just had to show you the progress so far …….

I feel that I should explain that it’s been raining quite a lot and also I’m feeling very lazy. Any promises to Lo, she is a terrible Goddess about having it all finished by the end of July might be broken. Actually, come to think about it I didn’t say in which year ….. 2012 has got a nice ring to it ….. mmmmm …… I reckon there’s a chance I might get away with it ……

[BTW, this picture was taken two days ago and it still looks exactly the same – tee hee]

(I think I might have to find a replacement………. Lo,TG Ed)

Urgent update …

……. better, my angel?

(24, 25, 26……. No, not a lot. Lo,TG Ed)

I think it’s going well. What is it, a subterranean shed ?

    daddyp replied:

I have no idea what it is – I’m just following orders ….. one step at a time ……

I imagine it finished in my mind’s eye, and it looks quite lovely. Don’t forget to let us know when it’s done.

*approves of men doing manual labor ‘cos it’s so manly*

    daddyp replied:

Lizza!!!- I was just coming over for a visit.

I agree with you about the manual labour ‘thing’ – it plays havoc with my heels though and I’m using moisturiser by the bucket load. Any tips?

    Lizza replied:

You pretty much got it covered. Just don’t forget to remove the grime from under your fingernails.

    daddyp replied:

Is that phrase taught at ‘goddess’ school? I seem to have heard it before ……. several times ….. most days ……..

it is looking very wally and steppy …..

    daddyp replied:

Who are you calling a wally!!!!

    70steen replied:

erm doh!!! & I thought I was the blond here???

    daddyp replied:

I’m sun bleached now actually ….. looking rather gorgeous ….. *glances in mirror ….. and changes mind*

If ya heels are giving ya gyp, ya fancy a bit of a kip,
I’ll send Davy ‘the chimp with the trowel’,
Just fill ‘im with tea, he’s all day for free,
(But keep Vera away ‘cos he’ll howl).

    daddyp replied:

I wonder when I should publish the Lead Poet’s Anthology? I think I’ll wait for more people to contribute ………

Does Davy have control of his bowels?
If not I’ll have to provide towels.
    The TG will moan
    And issue loud groans
Messes lead to murder most foul.

    gitwizard replied:

He’s not averse to over the edge,
of a cliff, or under a hedge,
    But if that’s an issue,
He’s been known to use tissue,
    And once even somebody’s cat!

    daddyp replied:

….. and it was going so well ……. tee hee

    gitwizard replied:

But before you berate me for that,
This thing that some folks call a ‘cat’,
    Was an old builder’s boot,
    From an old builder’s foot,
Preferred to the old guy’s hard hat.

    daddyp replied:

Isn’t ‘berate’ a nice word ….. it shouldn’t be, but I’ve always rather liked it …..

    gitwizard replied:

    Mmmm, synonyms Scold, Rebuke.
I’m too frightened to mention Sylvie, LoTG and Diane – you’ve even got Sledpress seething…..
    *hiding in skip*

    daddyp replied:

I think it’s going very well ….. in many ways …..

    I can’t say I am impressed…the number of bricks announced on twitter was…you have done NOTHING! {loTG: you are not letting him get away with that I hope?}

    daddyp replied:

Oh for goodness sake …. it’s been raining, and then it was toooooo hot, and then there was the incident with the sofa and the super glue, I had to brush my own teeth the other day and, of course, there was that wine tasting that HAD to be finished [it can go off very quickly you know]

    Lo,TG replied:

Sylvie, my words almost exactly, and according to the weather forecast it’s raining until Monday or Tuesday.
I may have to get in touch with Diane for the tel. no. of the man in that little white van and find out how far he’ll go…

  6. Posted July 16, 2009 at 9:51 am | Permalink

There is a chap in these here parts who drives around in a van with ‘Hire a Husband’ written on it. I have been very tempted to use him for various odd jobs I need doing around the house but thought I would check out what he looks like before exploring the full range of services he might have on offer…

So much easier to have a ‘live in’ handyman (even one as dilatory as you are).

However, checking out your progress – it’s a step in the right direction, I suppose…

    daddyp replied:

‘Dilatory’ ‘DILATORY’!!!!! …… I’ll have you know I’ve done several 1/2 hour days recently and even some planning when I should have been asleep. If I was paid I would be worth a small fortune by now [about £1.80 or possible £2] ….. well, I can’t do anything now …. I’m too upset ……..

    Diane replied:

See? Dawdling, time wasting, procrastinating behaviour.
As one who excels at procrastinating, I recognise the signs.

    I rest my case…

    daddyp replied:

I’ll get back to you when I can ….. just plumping the cushions and re-arranging my eyelashes …. I think I might need to close them ……

    Lo,TG replied:

Diane – Have you got his number?

    Diane replied:

I saw his van at Glastonbury but forgot to write down his number, this is an article about him. I googled “Hire a husband” and there are loads of them all over the country! This is an article about my local one.

    http://archive.thisisdorset.net/2001/4/24/101890.html

    Lo,TG replied:

A franchise. Brilliant! Soooo much easier and no messy divorce proceedings.

    gitwizard replied:

Was this ‘Hire a husband’ WORKING at Glastonbury then? One wonders what form of husbandry he was up to? Permanent loos built of Indian Sandstone for the Tipi field perhaps?

    daddyp replied:

Probably best not to ask too many questions GW …. I feel my foundations trembling …..

    70steen replied:

did some one say hire a husband… what a simply splendid idea. But knowing my luck I would get one like this

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/features/christmas/images/grumpy_jim_270.jpg

    daddyp replied:

The link doesn’t seem to be working ….. oh dear ….

    70steen replied:

oh well maybe it is fate … now where is that number??

    gitwizard replied:

That link works if you delete

    http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=

    70steen replied:

Darn it GW I was reckoning it was good karma that the image didn’t come up… quick I must stop the dial back……….

    daddyp replied:

Thanks GW ….. looks like a match made in heaven …… my arse!! – tee hee

    70steen replied:

    *LOL* :-D

I think it looks rather charming. Straight lines too. Very impressive. Will it be safe for bare footin’? Preplanned drainage for when it rains?

    daddyp replied:

Drainage indeed and there will be Indian sandstone steps …… eventually. However, I have forgotten to allow for planting pockets, as the TG very kindly pointed out. I have a large drill and I’m not afraid to use it …….

    gitwizard replied:

Indian sandstone steps? As in stone worn down over millennia by native Americans? I’m impressed.

    daddyp replied:

Oooo – they may be cursed ….. I’d better check with the TG, she’s very good at this sort of thing …..

    gitwizard replied:

I think as a precaution you should swap the cardboard box for this:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01113/Gisele_1113724i.jpg

    the headress I mean

    daddyp replied:

That looks very ……… tickly ……… I wonder if she’s any good at mixing cement? ……

    John replied:

No matter how many holes you make with that drill, I’ll be able to fill them each night while you’re sleeping.

Grout or mortar of course, haven’t ever heard of a Weref**ker before. Then again in the land of DP, anything’s possible.

    daddyp replied:

You’ll be in trouble with the TG young John …… her powers spread a surprisingly long way …….

    John replied:

When all else fails, fall back on Lo.

Ok…I’ll leave the project alone then.

Bet I could have some fun around Fraccy’s fire pit Weref**kin’ it while her and Mr. Fraccy sleep soundly.

    daddyp replied:

I believe that could be dangerous as well …… [good luck though - tee hee]

    John replied:

(True, the guy never did any of us wrong. My bad.)

I seethe with naked envy. I have been holding my front porch together with Rockite for ages. It looks like you’ve got exactly what I want there…

    daddyp replied:

Bliming heck ….. oh dear, I had no intention of upsetting you Sledpress …….. I’ll stop work IMMEDIATELY! …… you can deal with the TG though …. *hides under sofa*

    sledpress replied:

Upset me? I want to hire you.

    daddyp replied:

Only if you promise to seethe every now and again – tee hee

This all looks like that nasty four-letter word – w**k!

It is hard enough when you get paid for it but unpaid – - -

    daddyp replied:

Language Archie!!!! ….. that word has never been used in this household before …. shame on you …. an unblemished record …. mmmm ……. blemished ….

Too bad you don’t live near the North, or my Father would just finish the job up for you. If my brother wasn’t such an alcoholic, and I could get him up off his lazy butt, maybe he would do it too.

    daddyp replied:

I’ve had a look at your site ….. and I can’t see any of the signs of drug abuse when I looked in the mirror – phew ……. does your father travel?

  11. Posted July 16, 2009 at 6:42 pm | Permalink

are you building a fort too?

    daddyp replied:

Not as good as yours Nooter ….. I’m trying though … and I think the TG will agree with me ……

  12. Posted July 16, 2009 at 11:19 pm | Permalink

I never would have expected “at risk” behavior (or behaviour, if you please) to involve bricks. Seriously, what you have done looks nice, therefore, I think you deserve a break from the grind.

    daddyp replied:

I shall use this comment if it ever comes to mitigation ….. it’s all your fault!!

  13. Posted July 17, 2009 at 12:53 am | Permalink

Sweet! I love to play with bricks! Okay, I like when other people play with bricks and and I get to look at it.

    daddyp replied:

Hello Vanessa, or shall I call you Tammy? Anyone who can ‘hula’ two hula hoops at once is VERY welcome ……

Are you any good at mixing cement? …… just askin’
