A MAN OF LETTERS – Day 8

Dear Boy Scout

How delighted I was when you knocked on the door the other day saying you’d do a job for a bob and I do apologise for offering you only 5p – I’d forgotten to take inflation into account. I do hope that the £20 pounds you demanded was enough.

I notice that the Scout movement has kept up with the times and encourages the shaving of heads, presumably for health reasons when camping, and the idea of having your badges tattooed across your knuckles is brilliant.

Imagine my surprise when I inspected the garage after I’d asked you to clear it out and found in completely empty. Gosh, you and your friend were efficient . It’s a shame I was in the back garden when the Scoutmaster arrived and took everything away – I would have loved to have a word. I intended to replace most of my tools anyway and the spare gallon of petrol and the lawnmower and the strimmer and my Great Aunt’s painting by Gainsborough. Oh, and please don’t worry about the scratches down the side of the car – some of them were there already.

By the way, next year, whenever ‘Bob-a-Job’ is, I’m out I’m afraid . I’ll give you the address of a market trader that could do with some help next time I see you though – anything to help.

Yours sincerely

Daddy Papersurfer
