A MAN OF LETTERS – Day 14

The Cliff Top Residence
SE England
England

Dear Mothers on the school run,

How very reassuring that obviously none of you are suffering a personal credit crunch or indeed, worried about global warming.

The display of 4×4 vehicles outside the Little Henry and Henrietta Pre-School For Over Achievers this morning, was very impressive.

The delight I felt waiting while you parked almost in the middle of road and then had a chat with each other, was only surpassed by my overwhelming sense of pride in the future of our country, as encapsulated by your be-satchelled children, as they scraped down the side of my car, chatting about their oboe lessons and whether acrylic was preferable to oils.

It is evident that you prize the safety of your children above all else, as the majority of you only drove a few yards up the road before turning into your driveways. Heaven forfend that the little darlings should get some exercise or that your Gucci shoes might come in contact with the pavement.

Oh, by the way, later on, on my way to the re-cycling facility, I may have accidentally poured a slick of cooking oil all over the road  – I trust you managed to work out how to engage the 4 wheel drive facility successfully and that none of your dear children slipped, got covered in oil and than sat on your pristine upholstery.

Yours sincerely

As a former member of the aforementioned group may I just point out that I never parked in the middle of the road and we lived MILES from school and there were no buses and I had a 4×4 because we lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere and the boys would never have damaged your car and I have never worn Gucci shoes and the boys never had oboe lessons (piano maybe) and they both played lots of sport so had lots of exercise.

    Phew, touched a nerve there…..

[Shush - now don't tell anyone will you .... but way back when, I used to be chauffeur driven to Prep school - luckily my parents got into dire financial straits and I then remember going by bus and paying in FARTHINGS - tee hee]

I much prefer acrylic to oil. Not only can one employ a range of effects and styles in quick succession, from chiaroscuro to water colour without the mess and the hanging around that accompanies oils, but also I find that it adheres and holds its colour better when daubing slogans on the side of my 4×4.

Quite. Can you educate me on how to acquire an avatar?

    daddyp replied:

Google ‘Gravatar’ and then register and upload chosen ‘piccy’ – it sometimes takes a little while to get seen …….

    Somnambulist replied:

Thanks… let’s see if that worked.

    Somnambulist replied:

Hmmm maybe the ‘G’ rating should have been more a ‘PG’

    daddyp replied:

    That’s quite scary …… I mean lovely ……

spoiled children become entitled adults… and unfortunately we can’t spank either these days. well… under certain circumstances, i suppose…

    daddyp replied:

Tis unfortunate indeed ….. perhaps the pendulum will swing back again ……. everything in moderation [except the guillotine which is difficult to moderate]

I’m thinking of purchasing a 4×4 bicycle, very handy if one’s overdone the ale down the ‘Feisty Squirrel’.

Very wise Mr. Gitwizard – one can never be too careful ……

so glad I have not had to do the primary school run in the past 5 years (as we live in the present high school confines)
I used to wind me up to the hilt the amount of 4X4s that drew up .. I know we are surrounded by farmland but come on not all of you lived on one …. plus many of the Mums could barely see over the steering wheel… but at least the high heels helped to reach the pedals …

    daddyp replied:

Tee hee ……. you are soooooooo laid back …….. not!

Given your natural talent for writing these letters… I propose you take over those duties at the office, and your fracretary could focus on more important details.

    {{70s – I wonder if TG would like to have lunch with us… or if she’d like to go shopping for some new renovation ideas. One can never renovate often enough… and it does keep peabrains busy you know…}}

    daddyp replied:

Why are you whispering? ….. dang those curly brackets!
